This A4 landscape painting, Fynbos, is a heartfelt tribute to the wild and untamed beauty of the South African landscape I hold so dear. Inspired by the vibrant fynbos biome—so unique to the Cape region—this piece captures the riot of colour, texture, and movement that fills these natural spaces.
Each brushstroke was a memory: of walking through a field humming with bees, the scent of wild herbs in the air, and the delicate resilience of the flora thriving in the sun-drenched soil. I wanted to honour the way fynbos seems chaotic at first glance, yet holds an exquisite order and harmony when you take a closer look.
The sweeping blues of the sky and the dark silhouettes of trees beyond are a quiet contrast to the lively foreground, where I’ve layered dabs and washes of purples, ochres, pinks, and soft whites—an impression of the richness and diversity that fynbos offers. This painting is a love letter to the land I come from, and a reminder of the magic found in wild, natural beauty.
